Mount Diablo is the backdrop to most of the East Bay communities, and is cherished and loved by the residents. Most first time visitors to the park will head straight for the Summit to witness the famous view. It’s not Mount Diablo’s height that is remarkable, as it is only 3,849 feet tall, but it’s the beautiful rolling hills and broad, flat valleys surrounding the summit that is so remarkable. When conditions are best, you can see almost 200 miles. The hot summer days can be hazy at times, so the best time to take in the view can be on the day after a winter storm.

Mt. Diablo is maintained by the California Department of Parks and Recreation. To plan your visit, get the park info, maps and guides here.
